This half day course is suitable for nurses and support staff working with people who require medical oxygen in various formats.

Course Length. 3.5 hours

Introduction

This training enables users to administer oxygen safely and effectively, for casualties with breathing difficulties. Delegates will learn how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty and the safety concerns with carrying, storing and administering it. This course is suitable for qualified First Aiders, Emergency First Aiders, dental practitioners and dental care professionals, nurses, healthcare professionals and others working in an environment where oxygen is available for casualty welfare.

Course Contents

Why might a person require oxygen therapy?
Oxygen as a prescribed medication
The dangers of medical oxygen
Health and safety considerations (inc. fire)
Variable or fixed flow devices (including nasal cannula, masks and venturi valves)
Comfort, dignity and respect in the fitting of devices
Person centred care
Monitoring oxygen levels in line with care and support plans
Problem solving

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents
