This half day course is often delivered as part of a wider suite of programmes for staff working in mental health support services.

Course Length. 3.5 hours

Introduction

Self-harm is when somebody intentionally damages or injures their body. A person may use physical pain as a way of distracting themselves from emotional pain, giving them temporary relief. Written in partnership with the School and Public Health Nurses Association, the purpose of this course is to help you understand why someone self-harms and know how to support the individual.

Reasons for self harming
Self harm myths
Recognising signs and symptoms
Self help (including understanding patterns, distraction and delay)

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
