Course Length. 3.5 hours

Introduction

Suitable for nurses, this course has been designed to provide the latest practical guidance on identifying different wounds and skin conditions and the ways wounds should be dressed, treated and cared for. This course is often added to our Tissue Viability course to make a full study day.

Anatomy and physiology of the skin
Functions of the skin
Neuropathy (sensory, autonomic and motor)
Responsibilities, legislation and best practice sources
MUST screening tool
Visual assessments
Other tissue viability issues (Skin tears/sheering, dry skin, maceration, eczema, melanoma, urticaria, herpes, ringworm, acute wounds)
Phases of acute wound healing
TIME (Tissue, Infection, Moisture, Edge of wound)
Factors that affect wound healing
Wound dressings and types
Wound cleansing
Principles of wound dressing
Assessment and recording
Wound dressing procedures, including infection control precautions
Ongoing care

Course Outcomes

Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
