‘The Purple Guide’ Recommendations – FREC4

Information originally published by the Health and Safety Executive – “The Purple Guide” – now overseen and updated by the Events Industry Forum – gives best practice recommendations for ensuring safe and effective medic cover at events.  The document makes it clear that general “First Aiders” are not suitable for outdoor events and therefore we are pleased to offer FREC4 (First Response Emergency Care) qualified medics as oversight at all events.

Our FREC4 medics carry with them as a minimum:

• Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM): For manual ventilation.
• Oropharyngeal Airways (OP/Guedel): Various sizes to maintain an open airway.
• Nasopharyngeal Airways (NP/NasoClear): Various sizes for airway management when an OP airway is unsuitable.
• Supraglottic Airways (e.g., i-gel): Advanced devices for securing the airway.
• Lubricating Jelly: For insertion of airway devices.
• Suction Unit: Manual or mechanical device to clear the airway of fluids.
• Magill Forceps: For removing foreign body obstructions under direct vision. 

• Tourniquet (e.g., CAT): For rapid control of severe haemorrhage.
• Haemostatic Dressings/Gauze: To pack and control severe bleeding.
• Trauma Dressings/Bandages: Various sizes (e.g., Blast Bandages, OLAES) for major wounds.
• Chest Seals: For managing penetrating chest injuries.
• Pelvic Binder/Sling: To stabilize suspected pelvic fractures.
• Standard Dressings: Including conforming bandages, triangular bandages, eye pads, and plasters. 
• Defibrillator:  To apply a controlled electrical shock to the heart in the event of a cardiac arrest.

• Pulse Oximeter: To measure oxygen saturation and heart rate.
• Sphygmomanometer and Stethoscope: For manual blood pressure checks.
• Blood Glucose Meter/Kit: To check blood sugar levels.
• Thermometer: To check patient temperature.
• Pen Torch: For patient assessment (e.g., pupil checks)

Immobilisation and Environmental Equipment

• Splint Rolls: For immobilizing fractures and sprains.
• Cervical Collar (adjustable): For spinal stabilization.
• Foil/Trauma Blankets: To treat and prevent hypothermia/shock.
• Burn Dressings and Burnsoothe bottles: For treating burn injuries. 

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Nitrile gloves, face shields, and aprons.
• Clinical Waste Bags: For safe disposal of contaminated items.
• Wound Cleansing Wipes/Hand Gel: For hygiene and infection control.
• Tuff Cut Shears/Scissors and Forceps: For cutting clothing/materials and minor surgical tasks.

Up to 500 people – 2 x personnel in attendance – £450 + VAT
Up to 2,000 people – 4 x personnel in attendance – £700 + VAT
2,000 people and above – price on application

Additional days / shorter events – price on application
Discounts available for multiple events – price on application
