This course is ideal for all staff, parents, care givers and support workers within children and young people’s services.
Course Length. 7 hours / 1 day
Introduction
This one-day qualification is ideal for those who care for and connect with children, such as parents, caregivers, teachers, youth group leaders, and young adults. We understand the challenges that can arise when supporting young people, which is why this course covers vital topics in First Aid for Mental Health. Participants will learn how to recognise and understand mental health conditions, gently initiate supportive conversations, and find the right resources for additional help. The goal is to empower you to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young people in your care.

What is first aid for youth mental health?
Identifying mental health conditions
Stress
The effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and Trauma
Various prevalent mental health conditions
Drugs and alcohol
Self-Harm
First aid action plan for mental health.
The qualification is assessed through a written assessment paper and the practical demonstration of the first aid action plan for mental health. Learners must successfully pass both parts of the assessment to be awarded the qualification.
A Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.
The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. The learner will then need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years
Course Outcomes
Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
