This artificial ventilator awareness course is ideal for all nurses and care workers with responsibility for supporting the management of ventilators.
Course Length. 3.5 hours
Introduction
This Ventilator Training Course provides essential knowledge for healthcare and care staff supporting individuals on artificial ventilation. It covers respiratory anatomy, ventilator types, equipment setup, alarm response, and infection control procedures. A practical element to the course uses the NIPPY 4+ machine and looks at system set up and functions.
Course Contents
Anatomy and physiology of the respiratory tract
Mechanics of breathing and how the respiratory muscles work
Indications for artificial ventilation and when required
Patient safety and comfort
Staff roles, responsibilities and policies
Potential machine complications
Other respiratory procedures (eg. cough assistance, nebulisers and suction)
Practical session using manikin and NIPPY ventilator
Course Outcomes
Successful completion of this training course will result in the award of a CPD accredited certificate covering all aspects of the above course contents.
